Dead, 300-pound great hammerhead shark removed from Florida beach

A 300-pound great hammerhead shark washed ashore on a Naples, Florida beach.
City officials and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission removed the shark.
The shark was transported to an FWC lab for a necropsy to determine the cause of death.
Great hammerheads are common in Florida’s coastal waters and are known to be migratory.
People walking on the beach on March 26 in Naples witnessed a jarring scene. A lifeless great hammerhead shark, estimated by Naples city officials to weight 300 pounds, washed ashore from the Gulf.
The report came in at 8:30 a.m. said City of Naples spokesperson Monique Barnhart-Tiberio. Officials were dispatched to the scene on the beach, including the Naples Police Department. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission also came to help with the removal of the giant fish.
Christian Hernandez, a Naples resident who owns a the Coastal Cover Landscaping company, was nearby when officials were preparing the shark for removal and then hoisting it into a truck. Hernandez shared two videos he took with the Naples Daily News.
