Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster is a warmly nostalgic, hand-drawn 2D Metroidvania that you’ll be able to play yourself when it launches Fall 2026.
As part of FGS Live From GDC (which followed the Future Games Show Spring Showcase), developer Dormidin Studio has popped up with a new trailer to show the game in action. With an artstyle that immediately evokes pre 2000-era cartoons, any fans of He-Man will immediately get a shot of nostalgia.

Gameplay wise, there’s plenty of side-to-side action as we see our protagonist swap between human and beast form as they take numerous foes to the cleaners. That’s only a glimpse of what’s to come, too, as playing the game allows you to collect the souls of animals and creatures to transform and progress in the adventure.
The ability to transform will be crucial to deal with the Metroidvania-inspired elements of the game, as you’ll need the abilities of certain animals and creatures to get to certain parts of the map – be it an area you’ve run past previously, or something up ahead.
