Pennsylvania American Water issues mandatory conservation order for 42,000 customers

Update: The water conservation order was lifted Sunday morning.
Pennsylvania American Water issued a mandatory water conservation order on Saturday that is expected to impact 42,000 customers.
The supplier said that an ‘unexpected incident” affecting its West Shore Water Treatment Plant impacts the water system in the Mechanicsburg area as well as Silver Spring Township, Hampden Township, Lower Allen Township, Lemoyne, Wormleysburg, East Pennsboro, New Cumberland, Fairview Township, Shiremanstown, Camp Hill and Newberry Township.
Customers in those areas are asked to reduce their use by 10-to-15%.
The company said is has increased production at its Silver Spring Water Treatment plant and is also working to open emergency interconnections with neighboring water systems.
Pennsylvania American Water said customers are being notified through its emergency notification system, and will receive updates and a notification when the conservation order is lifted.
