MSPCA Cape Cod is in urgent need of diesel fuel donations on Tuesday while it scrambles to evacuate the more than 40 animals at its shelter before its generator runs out, according to the animal welfare non-profit.
The MSPCA’s Centerville adoption center is one of nearly 220,000 businesses and homes throughout the state that are still without power in the wake of a historic blizzard that ravaged Southeastern Massachusetts on Monday. The nor’easter brought hurricane-force winds and over three feet of snow to parts of the region.
MSPCA Cape Cod has continued to power its adoption center using a generator, but it expects to run out of fuel by midnight on Tuesday, the non-profit wrote in a Facebook post. The MSPCA is working to secure more fuel, but in the meantime, it is evacuating the dozens of animals in its care to its other shelters in Massachusetts.
Three dogs from the Cape Cod shelter are being moved to the MSPCA’s Nevins Farm in Methuen, a spokesperson for the non-profit said. The rest of the animals — 22 cats, 10 small pets and seven dogs — will be sent to the MSPCA’s Boston shelter.
