LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Dozens of dogs took off from Van Nuys Airport on Tuesday morning as part of an effort to relieve overcrowded Los Angeles County shelters struggling to house animals seized from a Lake Hughes property last week.

The dogs were transported to rescue groups in the Chicago area. Local organizations say they are trying to create space after hundreds of animals were removed from a Lake Hughes home on Friday, where conditions were described as inhumane.
