A bull escaped its pasture in the town Ticonderoga on March 1, catching the attention of New York State Department of Environmental Conservation police officer McCarthy who was patrolling Route 22.
Officer McCarthy used his patrol vehicle to block traffic. He then fashioned a lasso from a rope used for tying up boats. He collared the bull and, with help from the owner, guided it back to pasture.
It’s not clear how the bull got loose, but the owner commended McCarthy for his quick-thinking and impromptu cowboy skills.
On February 28, four ECOs partnered with the Warren County Sheriff’s snowmobile unit to conduct recreational vehicle checkpoints in Lake George during the Lake George Winter Carnival, which ran for five weekends from February 7 to March 8.
Officers issued 24 tickets for a variety of offenses including unregistered ATVs, uninsured snowmobiles, failure to wear helmets, and unlawful exhaust alterations. One snowmobiler suspected of driving while intoxicated rolled his snowmobile in front of the officers.
