A woman who drowned in a BREC conservation area off Hooper Road on Friday has been identified as 35-year-old Emily Cain, the Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office confirmed.
Cain was rescued from a pond at the Blackwater Conservation Area, where she had been swimming before dawn along with another man.
When firefighters with the Central Fire Department responded, Cain had been retrieved from the water by her companion but was unresponsive. The pair was found on an island in the pond.
Cain later died at a local hospital.
A spokesperson with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said charges for the man found with Cain are not being considered.
It’s unclear if the death was accidental, and toxicology results are still pending from the Coroner’s Office, but EBRSO confirmed foul play is not suspected.
