The young and the young at heart crossed cultural bridges Monday as middle schoolers from Japan taught visitors to the Sebastopol Area Senior Center the art of making animals and other objects out of paper.
The students, from Takeo, Japan, are part of the Sebastopol World Friends program. The volunteer nonprofit works to connect Sebastopol with its sister cities via educational and cultural programs and student exchanges.
Origami, the traditional Japanese art of paper folding, involves folding flat sheets of paper into complex objects without the use of scissors or glue.
