Area students showcased their farm and ranch skills during the Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show hosted last week at the Panhandle-South Plains Fairgrounds.
The annual event will culminate with the buyer meal, awards and premium auction Saturday evening, Jan. 17, at Cook’s Garage.
For more than 70 years, Lubbock County FFA and 4-H members have been participating in stock shows, according to the Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show.
The County Stock Show began in the 1940s and was held on the Slaton High School Football Field.
The Stock Show later gave way to the South Plains Livestock Show that was held at the South Plains Fairgrounds. This show covered approximately 21 counties in Texas and a couple from New Mexico.
From this, the Lubbock County Junior Livestock Show was born and the first show was held in 1964 at the South Plains Fairgrounds.
