TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – Environmental advocates can learn how to make their own holiday wreaths and financially support a conservation organization in Northern Michigan.
The Grand Traverse Conservation District will host both a holiday wreath fundraiser and its annual benefit wreath-making workshop at the Boardman River Nature Center in Traverse City. The wreaths will all be made with locally sourced evergreens.
The district’s wreath fundraiser costs $75 per wreath and requires advance online ordering. Pickup dates are Dec. 12 and 13.

The annual wreath-making workshop costs $50 and additionally requires registration. Participants in the Dec. 13 workshop will be instructed how to create their own wreaths with forest greenery and other materials provided at the nature center.
Additional winter programs at the nature center include a series of adult-accompanied children’s (ages 3-5 years) sessions designed to engage young learners with stories, crafts, music and discovery of the natural world. Sessions cost $5 per child and are scheduled for Jan. 13, Jan. 27, Feb. 10, and Feb. 24.
Finally, the conservation district and the Northwest Michigan Invasive Species Network will host a winter seed-sowing workshop focused on the importance of native plants and cold-moist seed stratification. That workshop on Jan. 22 costs $50.
