WATER: Stop building until you find other sources

I’m referring to the article printed Tuesday, July 18 by Bill Buley. It talks about Coeur d’Alene considering a conservation ordinance to curb water usage for residents. They’re talking about restricting watering from noon to 6 p.m. and possibly imposing odd/even watering schedules. Believe me, it doesn’t stop there. Pretty soon, you’ll only be allowed to water one day per week.
Nowhere in the article does it mention the thousands upon thousands of new homes built and being built that will use water from the same aquifer everyone else is using. Terry Pickel (Water Dept. Director) says “We can’t possibly continue to punch new wells.” I say why not? How many more developments will be going up using the same water source? Pickel mentioned that residential is the largest user group in the summer.
I’m amazed, also that commercial parking lots, parks and schools that have acres of grass won’t have to abide by any restrictions. Oh no! It has to look good for the public!
My solution… stop the building until they can find other sources of water.
