Two people face a number of animal cruelty charges after authorities allegedly found them living in Waterbury with nearly two dozen dead animals.
Officers responded to Storage Rentals of America at 770 W. Main St. shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving an anonymous complaint alleging a woman was living with a large number of both dead and live animals, according to Officer Nyjah Porcher of the Waterbury Police Department.
Police found 26-year-old Courtney Beardsley and 37-year-old Johann Delgado-Lopez living in a trailer, Porcher said. Officers reportedly found 20 dead cats and one dead dog at the scene.
According to Porcher, there were also animals that were alive in the trailer.
Beardsley and Delgado-Lopez were each charged with 31 counts of cruelty to animals, Porcher said.
According to court records, Delgado-Lopez was arraigned Wednesday in Waterbury Superior Court where his case was continued to Nov. 14. He is free on a promise to appear and did not enter a plea to the charges, records show.
Porcher said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
