MARTIN COUNTY —Turtwig and Hank are two green sea turtles who for many years have had buoyancy problems, rendering them unable to live in the wild.
The two have been released back into the Florida Oceanographic Society’s Game Fish Lagoon on Sept. 8, 2025, at the coastal center on Hutchinson Island in Martin County.
Turtwig and Hank returned to the center after being at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach for several months.
The Florida Oceanographic Society received renewed authorization by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation to provide lifelong care for the sea turtles.
Turtwig has been a resident at the center since 2010, diagnosed with spastic peristalsis of the large intestines, meaning lifelong medication would be needed to control buoyancy. Hank has similar problems.
