A fire at ZooWorld in Panama City Beach resulted in the death of six animals early Thursday.
The animals that died were small, possibly rodents, and two others were taken for veterinary care.
Fire crews contained the blaze, which started near an administration building, within 20 minutes.
Six animals died early Thursday morning when a fire broke out at ZooWorld in Panama City Beach, authorities said.
It was not immediately known what kind of animals died, however, Valerie Sale, communications chief for Bay County said they were small, possibly rodents. An additional two animals were taken to a veterinarian for treatment.
The fire was reported at 5 a.m. near the backside of an administration building. Crews were on the scene within minutes and the fire was contained by 5:20 a.m.
Portions of the road outside the zoo were shut down for a short time as a precautionary, but open by 8 a.m.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time and being investigated by the fire marshal.
Where is ZooWorld?
Located in Panama City Beach, ZooWorld has been independently owned since 2015.
Its experiences include animal encounters, a petting zoo and immersive exhibits. Animals there range from tigers to sloths to kangaroos.
