Making a significant stride in scientific advancement, researchers have created the first-ever map that illustrates the wireless communication among every individual neuron in the nervous system of a small worm.
This is the first time a map of a neuropeptide network is created in any mammal, even though the same has been successfully done in simple organisms.
The advancement in understanding how neurons communicate via extremely small proteins known as neuropeptides may aid scientists in understanding how our emotions and mental states are controlled, as well as common neuropsychiatric illnesses such as eating disorders, OCD, and PSTD.
The study was led by a team of researchers from the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology (MRCLMB) in Cambridge, Cambridge University, and KU Leuven in Belgium. The details regarding the research were published in the journal Neuron.
