When spending time at a zoo, we see many animals we would normally not spot or want to approach in the wild. Visitors can be curious up close about bears, tigers, monkeys and more as they act playful, rest or interact with others.
This week, we asked readers to send in photos of animals thriving in man-made habitats, and our readers delivered some stunning shots of quirky animals.
The winner this week is Rob Dillon of Charleston, with a gorgeous photo of flamingos at the Bronx Zoo in the fall.
Honorable mentions go to Dan Tylak of Isle of Palms with a photo depicting the relationship between animals and people at zoos, and Dale Johnson of Summerville with a photo of a koala sleeping in a tree at the zoo in Columbia.
