Police and the MSPCA removed 115 animals from a Plympton home on Tuesday as part of an animal cruelty investigation, according to police.
The investigation began Monday after the home’s owners contacted Plympton police with concerns about animals their tenants were keeping on their property, Plympton police said in a press release. Officers conducted an initial investigation at the Lake Street home before referring the case to the department’s animal control officer and contacting the MSPCA for help with the investigation.
On Tuesday, the animal welfare nonprofit was granted a warrant to search the home and remove animals from the property, police said. The MSPCA and Plympton police then spent four hours searching the property and removing a total of 115 animals, including cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, guinea hens, ferrets, quail, rabbits and goats.
The investigation took place at 34 Lake St., behind which several animal pens, chicken coops and sheds are located, WCVB reported previously. Animals seized from the property could be seen being loaded into a trailer from the MSPCA’s Nevins Farm.
The MSPCA is now in charge of the investigation and caring for the animals, police said. It is unclear if anyone has been arrested or will face charges.
No further information has been released.
