Over the Hill: The great migration

Smoked out
Somebody: Pay attention. Upstate horse country is experiencing fires.
Fire after fire. No rain. Trees dry as tinder. Houses, animals at risk. Firefighters have been on the scene.
Because everyone’s been concerned only about the election, there has not been much press about it, but the situation’s becoming dire.
Quietly suggested is that this could be — could be — deliberately man-made.
On governing bodies & words
Today I’m filled with semi-important items. Listen, whatthehell, it’s been a hard week:
The Washington Post’s Bezos is forcing change. Ditto the LA Times. Suspected is the novel idea of reporting hard facts not schloompy opinions.
Be journalists not opinion writers. Be neutral. No endorsement. Let readers make up their own minds. Nice novel idea, right?

It’s the wealthiest dudes changing how the public gets its information. In future it will not be through propaganda. Looks like no more will it seep through Bernie Sanders’ behind.
And listen, not that this matters anymore — but post-election chat is that Kamala and Hillary each chose gents named Tim for VP. Both low-key. Neither dramatic nor who cares. Not highlighted ever in the campaign trail.
Could be concern that voters might compare a dynamic male VP candidate more favorably than a female one. Who knows . . . or cares.
Let the credits roll
Now, for que pasa outside Washington, DC:
“Emilia Pérez” is about a drug-dealing man. Being today’s films, he then becomes a woman. Well, naturally. And it’s a musical. I mean, what else?
The thing stars Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana who plays a great honest lawyer. I think Rudy Giuliani said it was a great movie.
Saldana plays the gender bender’s advocate who sings and dances — and also sends bills. Open now.
Wait. More. Stallone. He was Rambo once careening around the wilderness. He just produced a movie about kids lost in the woods.
It’s about danger and facing your fears. Perfect for turkeys and Thanksgiving. Called “Lost on a Mountain in Maine.”
Another. Sally Kirkland stars in newie “Sallywood.” Co-stars are Jennifer Tilly, Eric Roberts, Keith Carradine. In movie typecasting — some play themselves.
LA’s giving it a one-week tryout. If they don’t like it, the tryout place will replace them with Kamala and her fashion designer.
Now, Denzel. Ask not Denzel Who? There’s no other Denzel. Now in “Gladiator II” he says: “I get beat up a lot. It’s blood, violence, beheadings, rhinoceri and a few sharks so viewers don’t get bored.” About as sweet and nice as your in-laws at the dinner table.
Newsy nibble
One thing about the Theater District. Like the show or not like the show, you must have beforehand dinner — or even afterhand supper — at Kellari. West 44th between Fifth and Sixth. Owner is Stavros. It’s Greek food. Terrific. And always packed. Been there 18 years.
Tasting flights
And one thing about traveling. The Discoverer travel site likes airport food. Go figure?!
After sampling Phoenix, Portland, Austin, London and who knows where else, they preferred LaGuardia.
So, remember that while you’re waiting for your three-hour delayed takeoff.
And time’s coming when soon we must say ta-ta to our wonderful Chief of State Biden. Wonderful guy. Lots of charisma — which will clear up as soon as Obama moves out of the neighborhood.
Only in the USA, kids, only in the USA.
