NY extends drought warning to 10 more counties

New York has added 10 more counties, including northern Cayuga, to a drought warning that is in effect due to dry conditions.
Gov. Kathy Hochul consulted with the state Department of Environmental Conservation to extend the drought warning to 10 more counties, raising the number of counties covered by the warning to 22. Two of Cayuga’s neighboring counties, Oswego and Wayne, are also in the warning area.
Other counties under a drought warning include Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Clinton, Erie, Essex, Franklin, Genesee, Hamilton, Jefferson, northern Herkimer, Lewis, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Steuben, St. Lawrence and Warren.
A drought warning is the second of four tiers in the state’s advisory system. The first is a watch, which is in effect for most of the state. A warning is the second level. The remaining stages are emergency and disaster.
When a drought warning is in effect, the state does not impose any water restrictions. However, it is intended to notify the public of
