The actor Harrison Ford is coming to the Field Museum to accept a conservation award on Oct 29.
The Field is partnering with the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation, an environmental nonprofit based in North Carolina, to present the award as part of a day of programs for what the foundation calls Half-Earth Day. (Earth Day is April 22.)
Ford, who was born in Chicago, has become known as an environmental and conservation activist, who “has championed biodiversity protection and raised global awareness of the importance of conservation for over 30 years,” according to an announcement of the event on Tuesday.
Half-Earth Day programs at the Field will include speakers and presentations on the subject of safeguarding biodiversity, sustainable business, species research, wildlife photography, paleo-art and other topics. Field Museum ornithologist David Willard will also be honored for his decades of work with birds and their collisions with city windows.
Daytime events are free and open to the public with registration. The evening award ceremony is $15, register at eowilsonfoundation.org
