The Land Conservancy for Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington is holding a free online event: The Scoop on Poop: Identifying Animals by their Scat, which will be of interest to people who walk in the woods and wonder which animals are walking there, too.
According to a release from the Land Conservancy, attendees will hear from guest speaker Peter Simons, Chief Park Naturalist at Algonquin Park, and will have a chance to share their own photos of animal scat from the area.
“Seeing is believing when it comes to wildlife, but to actually see the animal itself is not always so simple, and the moments in which we do get a look are usually quite short — the signs that they leave behind, however, are far more common and unveil wonderful clues into their life history,” Simons stated.
The webinar will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023. The presentation will be followed by a photo-sharing event reviewing the submitted photos from members of the public in this area.

The Land Conservancy for Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington is a non-profit, non-governmental, all volunteer effort. According to the release, its purpose is to acquire and steward conservation lands to ensure that future generations can continue to benefit from the region’s rich natural heritage. Since it began in 2004, the Land Conservancy is now protecting 13 properties totalling 452 hectares — land set aside for nature, forever.
