Several brands of pet food are under recall by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for possible salmonella contamination.
Foodynamics and Raw Bistro Pet Fare are recalling several products due to possible contamination.
Salmonella can affect animals eating contaminated products and may become lethargic, have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, or vomiting, according to the FDA.
Some pets may also experience only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected, yet healthy, pets can be carriers and transmit infection to other animals or humans.
If your pet has consumed the recalled product and shows these symptoms, contact your veterinarian, the FDA urges.
Foodynamics
Foodynamics is voluntarily recalling specific lots of Raw Dog Barkery, BellePepper Cats, Kanu Pets, and What’s In the Bowl brand freeze dried pet treats.
The items were shipped from Wisconsin via UPS to retailers in Wisconsin, New York, and Florida.
Here are the products recalled by Foodynamics:
Two packages of Raw Dog Barkery products packaged in 16-ounce packages with the “Use By” date (also the Lot #) 030527 printed on a sticker on the back label of the packaging. Labels below. These products were distributed to SimplyDried Treats and Magpies Gourmet Dog Treats in Wisconsin.
Three packages of recalled What’s In The Bowl products sold by the retailer in Delafield, Wisconsin, and include two 3-ounce and one 16-ounce packages with the “Use By” date (also the Lot #) 030527 printed on a sticker on the back label of the packaging.
Two packages of recalled BellePepper Cats products were sold by the retailer in New York in 3-ounce packaged plastic bags labeled “Freeze Dried Chicken Heart Slices” with a “Use By” sticker on the back listing 031627. Recalled products from Use By / Lot #’s 121426 and 011526 may have also been included in samples offered by the retailer as freeze dried pet treats.
One package of recalled Kanu Pets products were sold by the retailer in Florida in a 3-ounce packaged plastic bag labeled “Freeze Dried Chicken Heart Raw treats” and had a Use By / Lot # sticker on the back label of 031627.
Raw Bistro Dog Fare
Raw Bistro Dog Fare recalled the following products:
Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Frozen – 3 lb bags (UPC 858833002247) Lot 239, Best By 08/27/2026.
Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Bulk, Frozen – 18 lb cases (UPC 858833002629) Lot 239, Best By 08/27/2026.
The affected lots were distributed direct to consumer and to select distributors Sept. 1-17 in California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota.
The products are sold frozen in sealed packaging with a “best by” date of Aug. 27, 2026, and lot number 239 printed on the packaging.
The recalls were the result of FDA-collected sample testing.
To date, no illness or pets or humans related to these recalls have been reported.
Risk to humans
Salmonella also poses a risk to humans from handling such products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after contact with the food or any surfaces exposed to it. Healthy people infected with salmonella should monitor for symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), abdominal cramping, and fever.
In rare cases, infection can lead to more serious conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms, according to the FDA.
Consumers showing these signs after contact with the recalled product should seek medical advice.
If you have recalled items, do not feed it to pets or any other animals, and do not sell or donate the products.
Clean and sanitize pet food bowls, scoops, utensils, storage containers, and any surfaces that may have come into contact with the product. You should also wash hands thoroughly after handling pet food or any surfaces exposed to the food.
Consumers can return the product to the place of purchase for a refund.
