FDA bans red dye No. 3 from nation’s food supply

According to the FDA, manufacturers that use the dye in food will have until January 15, 2027 to remove it from their products.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned red dye number three from the nation’s food supply. This comes three decades after it was banned from cosmetic products around the country.
MUSC Health Dietician Hannah Hockley says red dye number three can be found in items on your everyday grocery list.
