Six leading national and regional conservation organizations are speaking out against a planned data center complex in Prince William County that would be the largest data center campus on the planet.
The nonprofits, including the National Parks Conservation Association and the Coalition to Protect Prince William County, filed an amicus curiae brief last week in support of a lawsuit by the Oak Valley Homeowners Association to stop construction of the Prince William Digital Gateway, which would include 37 data centers around 1,750 acres surrounding Manassas National Battlefield Park.

The county’s board of supervisors approved zoning for the project in December 2023, following a 27-hour hearing where nearly 400 people largely spoke against the project. A circuit court judge voided the rezoning last August, siding with the homeowners’ association and finding the county provided improper notice ahead of the hearing.
The county appealed the ruling and an appeals court will have a hearing on this lawsuit and another legal challenge to the Digital Gateway on Feb. 24.
“The county does not comment on active litigation,” a spokesperson responded when 7News asked for comment.
