COTTAGEVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) – A popular zoo in Colleton County posted on social media Sunday that all of its animals are safe from floodwaters caused by Tropical Storm Debby.
In a post on social media, the Bee City Zoo & Honey Bee Farm said workers were able to prepare for the rainfall Debby brought and the flooding that soon followed.
The post stated zoo officials were able to help neighbors after they evacuated their animals.
“We are so blessed to have so many good friends in the Zoo industry and all the way around,” the post stated. “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone encountering so much loss with this flooding event. We will work hard to help everyone get back to where they need to be.”
Sorry it took us a while to get a post out! We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring support from everyone. Like most… Posted by Bee City on Sunday, August 11, 2024
Bee City is family-owned and operated and began over 30 years ago, its website states.
In addition to selling products like honey and beeswax, the zoo offers visitors the chance to hand-feed monkeys, ringtail lemurs, alpacas, deer, goats and sheep.
It features a variety of other animals including tigers, serval cats, antelope and miniature horses.
