FREE SOIL — The 28th Blessing of the Animals is slated to take place this weekend.
The event begins at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Circle Rocking S Children’s Farm, located at 5487 Tuttle Road in Free Soil. Door open at 1 p.m.
The Rev. John Brown and the Rev. John Hansen will preside for the blessing service, which is open to all pets or livestock.
“For all the pets that passed away bring a flower or photo to the service to place by the St. Francis statue,” reads a news release. “This is a real church service for the special blessing of our pets and owners.”
All pets must be on a short leash or lead or be in a carrier. Owners are responsible for their pets. People without pets are welcome to the free church service as well.
Following the service, there will be a silent auction and pet show. All proceeds support the nonprofit therapy farm.
For the pet show, there is an entry fee of $5 per class, which includes dogs, cats, rabbits, fowl and more. Trophies will be handed out.
A men’s beard and mustache contest and ladies and girls bonnet contest are also slated.
The silent auction will run until 3 p.m. in the Fowl Territory Building.
The event will be held rain or shine, under the tents and barn. For more information, call 231-462-3732 or visit circlerockingsfarm.org.
