Ancient fish species makes historic comeback in Missouri rivers

An ancient fish species is making a big comeback in Missouri.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reported that lake sturgeon are spawning in large numbers.
The fish mainly live in the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, giving them plenty of room to reach up to 200 pounds and live to over 100 years old.
Fishery Biologist for the MDC, Travis Moore, said that the fish are such an integral part of Missouri’s ecosystem that they can be traced all the way back to the days when Lewis, Clark and company traveled through the state.
Over time, however, the population nearly disappeared in Missouri due to river pollution and changes to their natural habitats.
