Spring is just around the corner.
The Kootenai Shoshone Soil and Water Conservation District wants to remind landowners its no-till drill is again available to rent.
Numerous reasons to use the no-till practice on land include:
• Reducing or eliminating the need to till
• Reducing or eliminating wear and tear on equipment
• The ability to plant crops earlier due to fewer ground preparation requirements
• Adding grazing value by using cover crops as a feed source
The no-till drill saves around $100 per acre for each crop planted based off fuel and labor savings, according to the conservation district. By reducing disturbance in the soil, organic matter remains in the soil that improves plant health and increases water retention.
Rent the no-till drill for $60 per day or $10 per acre up to 100 acres. Over 1,000 acres is a flat rate of $1,000.
