The frigid temperatures this week can make booking a summer camping trip even sweeter as reservations opened Wednesday morning for the 2025 season at DCR parks.
Last year, more than 50,000 camping reservations were made statewide, according to the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Reservations for the 2025 season opened at 9 a.m. for DCR’s 25 campgrounds, where the season runs from April through October.
DCR’s campsites have a variety of amenities. There are R.V. sites with electric and water hookups and bathrooms with showers. There is yurt camping at locations such as Myles Standish State Forest, Nickerson State Park, October Mountain State Forest, and Wells State Park. Those seeking cabins can book at Mohawk Trail State Forest or Savoy Mountain State Forest.

“Camping in our DCR parks is one way that we encourage residents and families to explore and enjoy our amazing natural resources,” said Brian Arrigo, DCR commissioner, in a statement. “We know that spending time in the fresh air and outdoor spaces is vital to our overall well-being. We look forward to welcoming back seasoned campers and introducing new ones to the beauty of our parks.”
Reservations may be made up to four months in advance of a trip. Walk-in camping is not available, but same-day reservations can be made until 2 p.m. through ReserveAmerica.

Campers can bring their pets when tent camping, but pets are not allowed in cabins, yurts, or on beaches, and they must be leashed and have rabies certificates.
Visitors are not allowed on campsites, but day-use areas are available for gatherings and outdoor activities, according to DCR.
Those eyeing stays at Mt. Greylock and Washburn Island should note that reservations for these locations may not be available immediately, noted DCR, and those interested can email [email protected] for more information. Also, guests can make reservations for camping at Peddocks Island once the ferry schedule is released for the Boston Harbor Islands.
Interested campers can find a DCR campsite by visiting DCR’s camping webpage.
