Northern portions of the Sunshine State along with the Panhandle are facing a freeze warning overnight and into Wednesday morning as temperatures could dip into the high 20s and low 30s, the National Weather Service (NWS) warns.
The latest alert follows a series of cold episodes earlier this winter that brought subfreezing temperatures to parts of Florida, underscoring the vulnerability of populations and agriculture to short-duration freezes in the state.
The cold blast poses potential risks to sensitive vegetation, agriculture and outdoor animals in a region unaccustomed to freezing temperatures.
According to the NWS, some of the cities in Florida impacted by the freeze warning include Tallahassee, Lake City, Perry, Gainesville and Ocala. A frost advisory is also going into effect for eastern Marion County, western Clay and western Putnam Counties overnight into Wednesday morning.
