Recently released body camera footage shows a dramatic rescue in Upstate New York, where officers saved trapped animals from a burning barn.
On Jan. 7, officers from the Lewiston Police Department and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation responded to a report of a barn fire on Saunders Settlement Road in Lewiston. The fire was reported just before 11 a.m. and was contained to the barn, according to WKBW.
Officers were told that several cows were trapped inside. Body camera footage from Lewiston Police Officer King depicts them, along with Officer Richeal and Officer Scheer of the DEC, cutting chains on the barn gate as they worked to free the animals from the burning structure.
Nine of the 10 cows inside the barn were rescued. No injuries were reported.
Saunders Settlement Road was briefly closed as five departments responded to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
