A 19-year-old New Jersey man has been charged with burglarizing and vandalizing an amusement park in New York.
Two other New Jersey residents — a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old — have been identified and are expected to turn themselves in after causing about $57,000 worth of damage to Playland Park in Rye, New York, according to Westchester County Police.
Anthony Conkling and two others arrived at the amusement park along the Long Island Sound in a small boat in the overnight hours of Sept. 23-24 and climbed a fence, officials said.
The trio allegedly cut or ripped out fiber optic cables for phone and internet service in an electrical room. Police said they also stole 200 stuffed animals, which they hauled away in garbage bags. Lastly, they tried to throw a photo booth off the boardwalk but couldn’t.
The boat they used was returned undamaged to a boat club in Connecticut, officials said.
Conkling, of Wyckoff, is charged with burglary, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and petit larceny.
Attorney information for Conkling was not immediately available.
Police said they identified Conkling after sharing information about the crime on social media and receiving tips from the public.
