WESTLAND – Dozens of potential pet owners lined up Saturday at Michigan Humane’s Berman Center for Animal Care, where more than 100 animals awaited new homes during the third annual Meet Your Best Friend at the Shelter event.
The adoption event, sponsored by Mike Morse Law Firm, brought together multiple animal welfare organizations, including Birmingham Dog Rescue, Bottle Babies Rescue, Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control, Lincoln Park Animal Shelter, and Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit.
“It’s really amazing to see so many people come together to help these dogs who are in need, and so many people to show up who understand how important it is to adopt,” said Marisa Ruby of Birmingham Dog Rescue.
Among the success stories were Detroit residents Clifford and Terria Brown, who found their perfect match in a dog named Precious.
“We got up with the intention this morning of getting a dog,” Clifford Brown said. His wife Terria added, “I couldn’t avoid getting her. I’m like, ‘Yes, I got to have her.’”
The Browns are just one of the many families who have adopted nearly 1,000 animals from the Meet Your Best Friends events.
“It’s so great to see for them to find a family,” said Doug Plant, chief operating officer at “Michigan Humane. Just exciting to see that happen.”
The event also featured local pet vendors, including Woof Gang Bakery of Northville offering dog treats and giveaways, and World’s Best Cat Litter providing free “Poop Fighter” cat litter to cat adopters.
