Two women face charges of child and animal neglect after arrests last week in Ardmore.
According to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Department, houseMonica Elizabeth Tucker, 65, and Evelyn Rose Hill, 25, were arrested after an eviction notice was served at a home in the 29000 block of Ardmore Avenue. During that process, officers found the home to be in “extreme disarray,” with “significant accumulations” of feces and urine throughout the rooms.
Two children were living in the home. The children are now in the custody of the Alabama Department of Human Resources.
Multiple cases of animal neglect were also discovered, the sheriff’s department said. Limestone County Animal Control was contacted and further investigation found five dogs and seven cats suffering from severe malnourishment and neglect, deputies said. The animals were transported to a local veterinarian, where examinations revealed organ failure, serious injuries, and infections resulting from prolonged mistreatment.
“The conditions discovered in this case were alarming and heartbreaking. No child or animal should ever be subjected to such neglect. I am proud of our deputies, investigators, animal control, and our partner DHR for their quick action to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Our office will continue to pursue justice for the victims and hold those responsible fully accountable,” Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin said.
Tucker and Hill are each charged with one count of misdemeanor cruelty to animals, two counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals and two counts of felony torture/willful abuse of a child under 18.
This investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed, deputies said.
